Time to play catch-up

I realize I'm way behind on our 20 pictures per week quota, so I'm gonna play a little catch-up here with a bunch of fabulous nature photos I got off the PBS page on Facebook. Hummingbird photos are all attributed to Matthew Bradbury, leopards courtesy of Mark Fletcher, and all others (from "Braving Iraq") by Stephen Foote.

Close to Home

While thinking about what to do for our first project (five photos expressing a "sense of place"), I decided to check out some photos by a friend of mine from home. The idea of knowing the subjects or settings of the pictures really struck me since that doesn't often happen when you're looking at other artists' photography. I realize this is not something I can necessarily recreate with my work for anyone who decides to look at it, but it seems like a nice bonus for the friends of the photographer. Anyway, here are three of James Bassett-Cann's photos that really jumped out at me: the first because I love that dog and his face is so expressive here, and the second two because, although I don't actually know where they were taken, they remind me of summer vacations I used to spend on Mt. Desert Island in Maine and the treehouse we built at my grandparents' house up there (this one actually looks nothing like it, but for some reason, it still reminds me of those summers).

The copyright on his page won't let me copy the images, so you'll have to view them here:
